Managing a $2M converged infrastructure refresh
Owning $2M in vendor spend for a Cisco FlexPod refresh — evaluating proposals, validating the solution and keeping production available.
- My role
- Managed the vendor spend and vendor relationships; directed design and deployment.
- Context
- The on-premises converged infrastructure needed a hardware refresh to keep supporting production systems.
- Decision
- Refresh on Cisco FlexPod, with proposals evaluated and validated against requirements before purchase.
- Results
- $2M vendor spend managed
- Proposals validated with vendor account teams before commitment
The problem
Not every workload belonged in the cloud. The systems staying on premises still needed reliable, supportable infrastructure, and a refresh of this size is a significant capital commitment.
The approach
I managed $2M in vendor spend for the Cisco FlexPod refresh, working with vendor account teams to evaluate proposals and validate the solution before committing. I also directed the design and deployment, including data center power, circuit and cooling provisioning and monitoring.
The result
The refresh delivered supported, current infrastructure for the on-premises estate, with the investment tested against requirements before money was spent.
